Hundreds of mourners filled an Auckland church yesterday to farewell the 4-year-old boy who died at his daycare last week. Aldrich Viju was described as a "little angel" at a memorial service held at the Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception in Ellerslie.

Mem­bers of two North­land fam­i­lies in­volved with a church re­lo­cated to Wai­heke early this year vis­ited the is­land this month to see its new home. The O'Con­nor and Hilton fam­i­lies praised the new Wai­heke own­ers of the Towai church for their restora­tion of the 80-year-old build­ing. The Catholic church was trans­ported in sec­tions and barged to its new home on Wai­heke in Jan­uary.

Rotorua educator steps down from national body (photo)
A Rotorua principal who has fronted a national body during some of the most tumultuous and challenging times in education has decided to step down. John Paul College principal Patrick Walsh has spent the past 10 years serving on the Secondary Principals' Association of New Zealand, including three years as its chairman.

Hato Petera College to stay open in 2017, despite concerns
The Catholic Diocese of Auckland has confirmed that Hato Petera College, in Northcote on Auckland's North Shore, would operate as a college for day students only from 2017.
