Next year will see a focus by the Catholic Church on young people, their views, thoughts and dreams for their faith and relationship with the Church. As this year draws to a close, Pope Francis is giving young people a final opportunity to speak more directly to him, our Holy Father. Read more on Synod 2018 and take up this final chance before the Synod to be heard. Visit and complete the Synod 2018 survey before 30 November 2017.

St Joseph's Maori Girls' School's 150th celebrations were filled with friendship, laughter and good food. More than 1000 people gathered at the school in Greenmeadows for the jubilee, which included a powhiri, a banquet, mass, photos and an historical exhibition.

John Paul College teacher up for prestigious award (video)
John Paul College PE teacher Mark Chapman's love for the outdoors has earned him a chance at winning a prestigious award. Mr Chapman has been selected as one of three finalists for the 2017 Skills Active Apprentice of the Year Award which will be presented at the New Zealand Recreation Association (NZRA) conference on November 8 in New Plymouth.

** Sistine Chapel aims for new heights with Olympics-style show
Marco Balich, the artistic director for several past Olympics, is designing a multi-media show to bring the Vatican Museums to life for spectators. The multimedia presentation will feature a soundtrack by rock star Sting, and premier in Rome next year, and is expected to go on an international tour after it ends its stay in the Italian capital.

** Vatican court convicts former hospital CEO for rehabbing cardinal's apartment
A three-judge Vatican panel on Saturday sentenced a former president of a papally-sponsored pediatric hospital to one year of detention, a temporary ban on public office and a fine of 5,000 Euro, all suspended on the condition that he not commit another offense, for the charge of having illicitly spent $500,000 of the hospital's money to remodel the private apartment of a senior Vatican cardinal.
