LENT 2018

"Let us go together" - Ven. Suzanne Aubert

Each year the NZ Catholic Bishops' Lent Appeal is run by Caritas to support our work of charity and justice for the poorest and most vulnerable around the world, including in Aotearoa New Zealand.

In 2018 our Lenten theme is, 'Let us go together', which comes from Venerable Suzanne Aubert's 1885 book New and Complete Manual of Maori Conversation. We are personally called to go on a journey – with each other and with God. In the course of the journey we are changed and we change the world around us.

Resources and the Lenten Reflection Programmes are prepared each year for parishes, schools, small groups and the wider community and are available at http://www.caritas.org.nz/lent

** John Allen: Reflections on Francis and the deconstruction of the 'Imperial Papacy'
As we near the five-year anniversary of Francis's election to the papacy next month, it's becoming steadily clearer that a core aspect of his legacy may be a deconstruction of the strong "imperial papacy" many observers believe has taken shape over the last century or so...

** National Geographic's "Tomb of Christ experience" brings faith and science together
Pilgrims hoping to visit one of the most sacred sights in Christendom earlier this week were prevented from entering the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem after a dispute with city officials attempting to levy a tax on church properties.
