Dear friends,

"Welcome aboard" to Father Paul Rankin OP at St Benedict's Parish in
Auckland. Thank you very much for the intro Father Paul. Your report
about the number of e-mail addresses in the parish is a timely reminder
that e-mail and Web pages have become an ordinary means of communication
which anyone who wants to communicate something must take in their
stride.

This weekend's issue of 'NZ Catholic' newspaper includes an e-mail and
Web site directory of Catholic organisations in New Zealand. There are
many more NZ Catholic Web sites than are listed in the paper however.
Quite a few are listed in the National Catholic Directory Web pages ...
http://www.catholic.org/newzealand/newzealand/cathcom/directory/frdirectory.html
and many more on the diocesan Web sites ....

Wanda, our new member in Jacksonville, Florida - of which all of us can
now recite the names of at least four counties :-) - is interested in
the New Zealand Justice system. For you Wanda, and everyone else
interested, here are a few links worth browsing:

'Creating New Hearts: Moving from Retributive to Restorative Justice'
(1995) is a pastoral letter by our bishops on penal reform, at:
http://www.catholic.org/newzealand/cathcom/bishops/letters/restore.html

'A Consistent Ethic of Life' (1997) is another pastoral letter which
partly deals with the same topic:
http://www.catholic.org/newzealand/newzealand/cathcom/bishops/letters/consistent\
.html

The New Zealand Ministry of Justice - http://www.justice.govt.nz - is
our government's principal justice policy agency. Its 'Links' page -
http://www.justice.govt.nz/contacts/links.html - lists the home pages of
the Department of Corrections (prisons and probation services), the
Department for Courts, and the Prime Minister's Crime Prevention Unit.

NEWS OF THE GREAT JUBILEE

http://www.catholic.org/newzealand/cathcom/jubilee/news.html
On the bishops' Jubilee News page there are fresh links this weekend to
reports of the recent Jubilee of Agriculture (major themes were world
hunger and the issues surrounding genetically modified food); and the
Jubilee of Government Leaders and Politicians ("Is there any room for
ethics in global village politics? Can a politician today have moral
convictions and integrity?").

There is also a preliminary report on this weekend's "Jubilee within the
Jubilee", that of the Armed forces and Police.
